“Your ride has arrived, and it’s right on time… With her timbre of clarified honey, containing a hint of clove, Anne can shape her voice around a gaggle of genres: jazz, blues, pop…handling each with a mix of intimacy and strength. As a pianist and arranger, Mark also covers a range of styles and contexts, no surprise when you learn he taught music at Carnegie-Mellon for ten years (after obtaining two degrees there).”

TWO FOR THE ROAD is the eagerly awaited, long overdue duo album from Chicago-based husband and wife team Anne & Mark Burnell; an eclectic collection of standards, original songs, with a mix of musical genres from jazz, blues, and adult pop. Two for the Road showcases Anne’s songwriting skills with Peppermint Tea and Another Chorus of the Blues, and Mark's jazz ballad Looking for the Gold. An all-star array of musicians accompany them, Joshua Ramos on bass, frequently on the road with Ramsey Lewis, on guitar, Henry Johnson, who has recorded with Nancy Wilson and Joe Williams, and Jim Widlowski on drums, who performs with major touring musicals including Hamilton and Wicked.

Highlighted arrangements include How Long Has This Been Going On and Let's Fall in Love penned by Bob Ojeda who wrote charts for Sarah Vaughan, Count Basie Band, and Peggy Lee. Recorded at Chicago’s Soundmine Studio, Dennis Tousana served as recording engineer, Erik Martin of Soundanswer as audio consultant. Vocal tracks were recorded by Mark Burnell and remixed and mastered by Bob Katz of Digital Domain

"Two of the great entertainers to ever grace this city, Anne and Mark Burnell"
